On Apr. 8th, 2013, Professors Zhang Jun, Li Weisen and Sun Lijian from the School of Economics were invited to attend the Seminar of China-US Economists on “New Reform in the New Era of China”. This seminar was co-hosted by CEIBS Lujiazui International Finance Research Center and Peterson International Institution of Economics (PIIE) of the US .

CEIBS Lujiazui International Finance Research Center is a financial think tank supported by the Shanghai government, while PIIE is one of the two biggest non-profit think tanks in the US .

This round-table seminar gathered top financial experts from China and the US , including Ms. Wu Xiaoling (Director of CEIBS Lujiazui International Finance Research Center, Deputy Director of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, and Standing Committee Member of the National People’s Congress), Prof. Wu Jinglian, Prof. Richard Cooper from Harvard University , and China expert Nicholas Lardy.

Prof. Sun Lijian made a keynote speech: “Will the Japanese Economy be the Next Trouble-maker?” He pointed out that problems rooted in the Japanese economy are fundamental problems rather than monetary policy problems. The Japanese government misunderstands the QE policy of the US and could not reap the same results as the US , which could cause either another bubble or a continuing recession. Prof. Zhang Jun and Prof. Li Weisen commented on the keynote speeches and expressed their opinions regarding the review of the Budget Law of China and the correlation between urbanization and economic growth in China .
