In March 2014, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission announced the list of various research bases among Shanghai colleges. Fudan Employment and Social Security Research Center has been named as a key research base in Humanities and Social Sciences.
The preparation work for establishing Fudan Employment and Social Security Research Center began in June,1998. With the official approval by the university authorities, and the support of the Social Science Division in the Ministry of Education, the Shanghai Administration of Labor and Social Security, the Shanghai Association of Labor as well as the Social Science Research Department of Fudan University, the Center was established in March, 1999 as an interdisciplinary Humanities and Social Science Research Center.
The center basically focuses on employment and social security issues arising in China’s development. Based on contemporary theory in economics, sociology and other disciplines, and cooperation with international peers, the center explores the internal pattern of employment changes in China, and analyze the transition of Chinese social security system to predict the inevitable trend of employment and social security. Theoretically, it aligns Chinese studies in this particular area with the international level while practically it offers policy-making suggestions for national and local governments.
Prof. Yuan Zhigang, Dean of the School of Economics, is Director of Fudan Employment and Social Security Research Center. Other full-time researchers of the center include Professor Lu Ming, Professor Song Zheng, Professor Feng Jin, Associate Professor Zhang Tao, and Dr. Fan Xiaoyan. The center also has part-time researchers, post-doctoral fellows, PhD candidates, and master students. In addition specialists from home and abroad are invited to take part in projects.
