On June 6, a workshop was held in Hong Kong on “International Impact of China’s Economic Transition and the Investment Opportunities”, which was co-organized by the Hong Kong Alumni Liaison Office of Fudan SOE and the Shanghai Association of Finance Alumni of Fudan. Four alumni were invited to speak at the workshop: Dr. Sun Mingchun, Chairman of Bohai, Mr. Bin Shi, Managing Director, China Equities, UBS Global Asset Management, Dr. Zhao Yang, Chief Economist, Nomura Securities, Mr. Dai Jixin, co-founder and CEO of Xin Tian Fund Management Company Limited. More than 50 alumni were present. The interaction reminded them of what they had experienced many years before in Rm. 3108 of Fudan University, a classroom reserved for popular lectures expecting a big audience. Ms. Dong Qi, Hong Kong Alumni Liaison of Fudan SOE, started with a brief introduction to the liaison office and the activities to be launched in the near future. Dr. Sun Mingchun analyzed the various challenges and opportunities China faces in its economic transition, and the significance of the RMB’s internationalization. Afterwards, the four speakers had a panel discussion about opportunities and challenges financial reform has brought domestic businesses, the current status of industrial transition, impact of capital market liberalization on debts, foreign exchange and derivatives, and the potential existence of a stockmarket bubble.
