Department of Economics (KU Economics) was established in 1905 with the intention of promoting modern economic and financial education in Korea. As one of the oldest departments in Korea University, KU Economics has nurtured leaders of the Korean society who were the backbones of the rapid industrialization and economic development.
KU Economics ranked first in Korea for the academic performance of faculty members. The department ranked top in Korea with the numbers of papers published in EconLit journals (American Economic Association’s Electronic Bibliography of Economic Literature) from 1970 to 2003.
KU Economics ranked first in The JoongAng Ilbo’s national university ranking in 2007 and 2010. The department ranked first at the ranking of Economic programs in Korea according to The JoongAng Ilbo which is one of the most prestigious newspapers in Korea.
