A:
The answer is no. Without an exchange agreement, the International Student Office at Fudan will not be able to admit you and waive tuition at the same time. We suggest you apply as a self-paying student instead.
A:
After we receive your coordinator's email, we will inform you of the steps to be taken in order to be admitted as an exchange student. That will happen after applications open, in March and September respectively. Please make sure that you complete the online application before the deadline when the system closes. Meanwhile please check our webiste for courses you can take. In late June or December we will issue the official admission notice. Or you can check the status in the application system.
A:
At Fudan the undergraduate and master enrollment systems are different. If this mistake is not corrected it will affect the courses you can take. If you have completed the online application, you are not able to change that piece of information. You can email us about this and we will tell you what to do.
A:
1. Please fill in your name as it appears on your passport.
2. Upload a head-and-shoulders picture of you in JPG format.
3. Upload a copy of your passport, your transcript of academic records, and nomination letter issued by your university.
4. If you are asked to put down a guarantor, that can be your parent. If you are asked to put down a local contact in China, it can be the coordinator of our school.
IE works best to do the uploading job if you use Windows, and Opera works for Macbooks.
A:
Admission and visa documents are issued in June and December by the ISO, and then mailed to your coordinator.
A:
When you finish the online application, the staus is 'Review by Faculty'. When it changes to 'Review by ISO', that means our school has finished the review, accepted your application and forwarded it to the ISO for issuance of your admission documents, which are usually done at the end of May or November. Then you can get the admission and visa documents in the first half of June or December.
Don't worry if you don't receive any email from the application system. You may log in to check your application status from time to time, and if anything goes wrong we will contact you.
A:
You do not need to apply again. Sometimes it is accepted if both the old and the new passports are submitted together with the admission documents. Please find out. If this does not work we will contact the ISO so that new documents can be issued.
A:
You can stay at the Foreign Students Dormitory (for foreign passport holders with student visa) on campus or live off campus. For dormitory information, please visit https://iso.fudan.edu.cn. On that page you may also find off-campus accommodation recommended by the ISO.

A: The link is http://www.fao.fudan.edu.cn/1619/list.htm for undergraduate coruses. Please note that we allow undergraduate students to take master-level courses offered by our school:  https://econ.fudan.edu.cn/ema/Welcome/Current_Students/Course_Schedules.htm, https://econ.fudan.edu.cn/gjhz/hwzjsk.htm.
Exchange students at SOE are required to earn at least half of their Fudan credits from SOE.

Please also note that the FAO website, except for the course information, is for university-level exchange students. So if you find any notices on this website please remember they address the university-level exchange students, not exchange students of SOE. For example, the university-level exchange students' student numbers are posted on the FAO website quite early but our school's exchange students get the student numbers in the email after they are issued.
A:

Fudan University ’s calendar is issued in May every year and dates vary. When we have the calendar we will post the important dates in the calendar section of the FAQ. To get a general idea about the dates, usually the fall semester starts in early September and lasts 19 weeks to end in mid Jan. including 17 weeks of lecturing and 2 weeks of exams. Usually the EMA courses in the fall semester are finished before Christmas, but most of the undergraduate courses are not. If you want to go home for Christmas please pay attention to the planned exam time of each course you want to take. Similarly the spring semester usually starts in late Feb. and lasts 19 weeks to end in early July inlcuding 17 weeks of lecturing and 2 weeks of exams. However, the ema courses in the spring semester are finished before the end of May, but most of the undergraduate courses are not. When registering for courses please make sure the exam date of each course is before your planned departure date.

Fudan University's Foreign Students Dorm is for students holding foreign passports with a student visa.

If you want to stay at the Foreign Students Dormitory on campus, you will need to book a room online at https://iso.fudan.edu.cn/isoenglish/16212/list.htm. The date when the booking starts will be posted on the website of the ISO, usually during the summer vacation/winter vacation. Before booking please read carefully the Introduction to the Foreign Students Dormitory and the Accommodation Regulations on the ISO website.

Further directions:
  • When you book a room, you should choose a check-in date. Your room will be kept for you for three days from this check-in date. If you fail to check in on time, your reservation will be cancelled. After you book online, you will receive an email telling you whether the reservation is successful and how to proceed with payment.

  • Students living in the dorm are not allowed to check out or change for another room within the semester.

  • After your reservation, if you choose not to live in our dorm, there will be a fine of RMB 800. Please think carefully before you book a room.

  • If you need assistance with your booking, please contact:
    Tel: 86-21-65643407 / 86-21-65643413
    Fax: 86-21-55076831
    E-mail: xs_zhou@fudan.edu.cn

  • The Reception Desk of the Fudan Foreign Students Dormitory is open 24 hours a day. You can check in any time after you arrive. Tel: 86-21-65643407.

A:
As the number of dorm rooms is limited and they may run out very quickly, you are advised to directly call the phone number indicated on the ISO website to solve your problem. We won't be able to do it as the dorm buildings and the booking system are not run by us.
Please note that dorm rooms are very hard to get, as the degree students and university-level exchange students will be the first batch to book the rooms and you as department-level exchange students will book in the second batch. It is a good idea to reserve early with one of the accommodation providers recommended by the ISO instead of waiting to reserve a dorm room just weeks before your arrival. Or you can consider renting an apartment after you arrive.
A:
After the admission documents are issued by the ISO, Fudan University's Undergraduate Education Office will issue the student numbers of all incoming undergraduate exchange students. About three weeks before the registration date we will email all incoming exchange students the student numbers.

A:
6 credits per semester is our minimum requirement, but there is no upper limit. We expect to see most of the courses an exchange student takes are offered by our school.
A:
Please read the calendar file you get in the email. Generally exchange students will enroll in courses online after they register at our school. The course enrollment system will close by the end of the second week of the new semester. Undergraduate exchange students can take our school's EMA courses. Please make sure that both the master-level courses and the undergraduate courses you have enrolled in online are included in the course registration form. The registration form should be submitted by the deadline and will be the basis for the final transcript. An undergraduate exchange student will receive two transcripts after completing the courses: one generated by the Fudan undergraduate course enrollment system, and the other prepared by our school listing your grades of the master courses not covered by the system.
Master students will get only one transcript.
Exchange students can take the first two weeks to sit on courses to make up their mind.
A:
Yes. Our school offers 2-credit Chinese language courses, and so does the Department of Chinese Language and Culture. But please note that the 4-credit Chinese language course offered by ICES is available to university-level exchange students only. Even if you secure a spot in the online enrollment system there is still the possibility of your name being removed from the class afterwards.
A:

Undergraduate exchange students enroll in Fudan's undergraduate courses online with their student number at xk.fudan.edu.cn. There you can find courses offered by our school and other departments of Fudan.

Master-level exchange students enroll in courses online in the graduate enrollment system with their student number.

Whether you are an undergraduate or a master exchange student, please submit your course enrollment form in word format to econ@fudan.edu.cn by the deadline, which should include every course you take at Fudan.

Every exchange student is expected to earn at least half of his/her Fudan credits from our school.

A:
No for master students. For undergraduate students there is an option to drop at mid term by paying for each credit dropped. We suggest you think carefully during the first two weeks so that you will not need to drop any course after the system closes.
A:
The score of an undergraduate course is available five working days after the exam date. For the other courses an undergraduate student takes, such as the master-level courses, the transcript will be provided around the end of the second week of the following semester. Master students will get their transcripts around the end of the second week of the following semester. Please note that the transcripts will be emailed to you and your coordinator.

For undergraduate students taking the master courses you can ask the TAs for your grades or wait for your official transcripts, because master grades of undergraduate students are not entered in either the undergraduate or master system.

A:
At Fudan, students get A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D, and F. F is failure. The number of students getting A or A- should not exceed 30% of the whole class.
A:
After the admission documents are issued by the ISO, Fudan University will issue the student numbers of all incoming non-degree students. About three weeks before the registration date we will email all incoming exchange students the student numbers.
A:
You may find this link useful: http://www.fao.fudan.edu.cn/1619/list.htm, which provides a list of Fudan's English undergraduate courses and the syllabi. If a syllabus is outdated, please ask the professor for it during the first lecture. If the professor uses Fudan's elearning system (elearning.fudan.edu.cn), you are automatically included after you enroll and then you can access the teaching materials.
If you need the syllabus of one of our school's English master courses that you can't find on our website (check the links for our EMA courses and short courses) please email us.

A:
Elearning is used at Fudan to facilitate teaching and administration of programs. Please visit elearning.fudan.edu.cn to log in. Notices for exchange students will be sent via elearning, and your professors will distribute teaching materials through it. If you are not in elearning for a particular course, please ask the TA for help. However, please note that elearning is not the platform to register for courses.
A:

Each professor has his/her own attendance policy. Please make sure you know all the updated assessment requirements.

A:

At Fudan University one credit hour’s teaching is 45 minutes. Most content courses are 2 credits providing 32 credit hours teaching, or 3 credits providing 48 credit hours teaching. The master short courses are 1 credit each. The schedule of a short course may conflict with your other courses and so please make sure you check the attendance policy of each course and ask for leave for your absence.

A:

Please consult your home university coordinator about the credits transfer.

A:

The username is your student number while the password is fDu + the last 6 digits of your passport number (if it contains any letter, please substitute with 0zero). Undergraduate students log in at http://xk.fudan.edu.cn/en_xk/login.action for course enrollment, elearning.fudan.edu.cn for notices, activities sign-up and the course management platform.

A:

You can find the course codes at the course links in the information sheet.

A:

Please see the schedule. For undergraduate students the deadline for dropping courses online is several days ahead of the adding deadline. Undergraduate students enroll in master courses by filling in the course enrollment form. Make sure you check your enrollment before the system closes, because if you have enrolled in one course by mistake and are not aware of it, then you will get an F on your transcript. If you think you are enrolled in a course but actually you are not, you won’t get the grade even if you complete all the assessment.

A:

No. If there is time conflict the system allows you to choose only one of them.

A:

Before the enrollment period ends, students are free to add or drop courses. It is possible that some students will drop the course and so you can register. Increasing the capacity is not an option for most of the courses. So there is no guarantee that you will get every course you want.

A:
If all of your courses and examinations are ended, we can issue a Certificate of the End of the Courses. You can apply for refund from the Foreign Students Dormitory with that.
A:
The transcript will be issued no later than the third week of the following semester. We will send it to your home institution by email.
A:
You can go to Room 107, Building 10, Handan Campus to cancel the card and get the remaining amount back.
A:
If your university has a departure form that needs to be filled in by us, please come to our office before you leave.
Also remember to return any borrowed books to the library before you leave.

Photos are not needed for registration, but you may need some for other purposes. If you don’t have any on hand, on your way from the dorm to Guanghua there is a stationery shop close to FamilyMart where you can have the photo taken. There is also a photo booth close to the entrance of Guoshun Rd., or at the metro stations.

A:

Please download the app and register according to the instructions. We have seen international students who registered back home but forgot the password when they were in China, making it impossible to use the account unless they had two Chinese WeChat friends already on their WeChat contact list to verify. Therefore, our advice is you set a password you will be able to remember when registering your WeChat account and link your WeChat account to your email.

A:

WeChat is a daily must in China. We use it to communicate, keep in touch, share experiences with friends, and pay for purchases or services. There is a group chat for exchange students every semester because we want to reach you in a fast and efficient way. We will post the announcements in WeChat, eLearning and they will also go to your email. If you have questions that you believe others also have, you can ask them in the group chat. If you have personal questions you can have a private discussion. When you see useful information posted on WeChat, you can “Add to Favorites” so that you can retrieve it later. There will also be WeChat groups for different courses.

Your TAs may set up WeChat groups for the courses.

A:

You can buy one at the airport after you arrive, or at a telecommunications branch store after you arrive at Fudan.

A:

WeChat pay and Alipay require a Chinese debit card to work. You can apply for one at a local bank with your passport. But some banks may not want to open the account for a foreign student who will stay for just 4 months. If you get one you can attach your card to WeChat and Alipay. Then you will be able to pay for small purchases and taxi rides, use shared bikes, top up your e-campus card, all without using cash.
