History
 
-The School of Economics was founded in April 1985. Its predecessors were the Business Division of Fudan (applied economics) set up in 1917 and the Department of Economics (theoretical economics) set up in 1922.

-In 1917, Fudan University was the first among Chinese colleges and universities to found the business program.

-In 1922, the Department of Economics was founded at Fudan.

-In 1929, Fudan reorganized the departments and the Division of Business was restructured into the School of Business.

-In 1949, Mr. XU Dixin, who was the famous economist, Deputy Director of East China Financial Committee, and the head of commerce department of Shanghai, took the position of the head of Institute for Economic Research of Fudan University. The institute recruited and cultivated the first round of graduates in China.

-In 1964, the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) and the Ministry of Education of China assigned certain universities to set up research institutes studying the major capitalist economies. Accordingly Fudan University established its Research Institute of Capitalist Economies, the predecessor of the Institute of World Economy. In 2000 the institute became one “Key Research Base of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences” sponsored by the Ministry of Education of China.

-In 1979, the Department of World Economy was established based on the teaching and research section of world economy within the Department of Economics.

-In 1984, China Center for Economic Studies was set up and in 2000 it became one “Key Research Base of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences” sponsored by the Ministry of Education of China.

-In 1985 the School of Economics was founded.

-In 1992 the Department of International Finance was founded based the teaching and research section of international finance within the Department of World Economy.

-In 1998 the specialty of Economics was named a “National Base for Training Talents of Economics” by the Ministry of Education of China.

-In 2001 the Institute for Financial Studies was established. It was the first cross-disciplinary comprehensive financial studies institute in Chinese universities.

-In the same year, the Department of Public Economics was set up and recruited its first undergraduates.

-In 2002 the Department of Insurance was set up and recruited its first undergraduates.

-In 2007 the school moved into its new building at 600 Guoquan Rd., Shanghai.
